Marianne Peters, owner
History of The Smith House
Eli Moore, owner of the once
popular Moore's Opera House, built this imposing home at 118 North
Chestnut Street in 1885. A few years later financial reverses forced him
to sell to the Murphy family.
A daughter, Clara Murphy,
married Carl Smith and they and their sons resided here with Mrs. Dorcas
Murphy for many years. Thus, it has been widely known as the Smith House.
Mrs. Smith gave piano lessons to many Barnesville residents.
You'll enjoy browsing in this
10 room, Italianate-style brick home. High ceilings, beautiful oak
woodwork, fireplaces, and ornate fretwork of the period are yours to
admire.
